Migration is a social phenomenon that concerns all people. In Türkiye, there has been a significant increase in both internal and external migration in recent years. On the other hand, the earthquake of February 6, 2023, which was described as the "Disaster of the Century" in our country, left deep and destructive traces on people. As a result of the great earthquake, millions of people were forced to migrate from the cities where they were or where they lived. As a result of the mass migration, important structural problems have emerged in various fields such as "demography, sociology, psychology, economy and politics". To build healthy policies for individuals who have been exposed to migration or affected by migration and to produce policies for the creation of a living space worthy of human dignity, especially for those under temporary protection, it is felt that all segments related to migration should come together to make theoretical discussions and provide a perspective to practitioners. With this sense of duty and responsibility, Gaziantep University Institute for Migration is going to organize the II. International Migration Studies Symposium between 14-16 December 2023.
This symposium, which will be organized based on the principle of "correct diagnosis for correct treatment", aims to bring together theoretical knowledge and institutional practices related to the subject of migration studies; to put forward examples of scientific research and institutional practices; to make institutional practices functional by basing them on theoretical studies. II. The International Migration Studies Symposium aims to bring together theories, scientific research, and institutional practices related to migration on a common ground and to address them in a scientific framework.
In line with this purpose and scope, it is aimed to create a synergy by bringing together scientists, institutional officials, field workers, and graduate students who carry out scientific studies in the field of Migration Studies. The papers presented at the symposium are going to be published electronically and in printed form in the book of proceedings after the referee process.
